The short version
GoWeya helps you find people nearby who want to do the same thing at the same time. To do that it needs to know roughly where you are and what you are into. It does not need — and does not have — most of what apps like this usually collect.
Other people only ever see the name you choose to go by, your photo, your bio, your interests, and how reliably you turn up. Never your email. Never your exact location before you have been accepted into something.
No advertising, no advertisers, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.
No analytics or tracking SDKs are built into this app at all.
No payments. Contribution amounts on an activity are text on a screen — GoWeya never collects, holds, splits or moves money.
No birth date. The 18+ check is stored as a yes, not as a date we would then have to keep.
What we collect
Only these things, and only for the reasons given.
From Google or Apple when you sign in: your email address, your name and your profile photo. Apple only ever sends your name on the very first sign-in, so it is saved at that moment or lost for good.
What you write on your profile: the name or handle you go by, a short bio, a photo, your interests, and optionally your gender, language and timezone.
That you are 18 or over — recorded as a yes or no, never as a date of birth.
The activities you post: what, when, where, and anything you write about them.
Your device location, when you allow it: at about one-kilometre accuracy, used while the app is open to order what you see and work out roughly how far away things are.
What you say in an activity chat, and which activities you joined, turned up to, or cancelled.
Your location, specifically
This is the part worth reading closely, because it is where an app like this can do real harm and where most of the design effort went.
Every activity has two separate versions of its location. Which one you get depends on whether you are in.
Before you are accepted: an approximate area and a rough distance band such as "about 2 km" or "5–10 km". Never a precise distance, because precise distances measured from three positions can be used to work out an exact point.
After you are accepted, and for the host: the exact place, the address, and the meeting point.
These are two different things the server sends, not one thing the app hides part of. The app is never sent the exact location of an activity you are not in.
Your own device location is used while you are looking at the app and is not stored. If you do not grant it, the app still works — it simply stops sorting by distance and says so, rather than guessing.
What other people can see
Your profile as others see it is deliberately small.
Visible: the name or handle you chose, your photo, your bio, your interests, whether you are identity-checked, and your reliability tier with the counts behind it — for example "Regular, 6 attended, 100% show rate".
If you choose a handle instead of your real name, your real name is not shown to anyone, anywhere — including in group chats and on activities you host.
Never visible: your email address, your exact device location, and your date of birth (we do not have one).
Your reliability score itself is never sent to anyone, including you. Only the tier and the counts are.
What you have been to is private by default. It is only shown on your profile if you switch it on.
Photos
Any photo you upload has its EXIF metadata stripped before it is stored. Photos taken on a phone normally carry the exact coordinates and time they were taken, and publishing that alongside a photo of where you are going would undo everything described above.
Who else is involved
GoWeya uses a small number of services to work at all. It uses no advertisers and no data brokers.
Supabase — hosts the database, files and sign-in.
Google — sign-in if you use it, and map display. When you search for a venue, the request goes through our own server rather than from your phone, so Google is not handed your device identity along with the search.
Apple — sign-in if you use it.
How long things are kept
Your profile and your activities are kept until you delete them or close your account. Messages stay with the activity they belong to. Records of joining, attending and cancelling are kept because they are what reliability is built from — without them the tier on your profile would be a number with nothing behind it.
Your device location is not kept at all.
Deleting your account
Write to
[email protected] and we will delete your account and the personal information attached to it.
Two things survive, and it is fair to say so plainly. Messages you sent in a group chat stay in that chat, shown without your name — removing them would tear holes in a conversation other people were part of. And where an activity you hosted has already happened, the fact that it happened remains, because other people's records of attending it depend on it.
Your rights
GoWeya operates in the Philippines and follows the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173). You have the right to be told what we hold about you, to get a copy of it, to correct it, to object to how it is used, and to have it erased.

[email protected]. If you are not satisfied with the answer, you can complain to the National Privacy Commission at privacy.gov.ph.
If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, the equivalent rights under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR apply and the same address reaches us.
Children
GoWeya is for adults. You must be 18 or over to use it. We do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 18, and an account found to belong to someone under 18 is removed.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected or who can see it, the app will say so rather than quietly updating the date at the top.
